If you have an ICBC claim number, you are eligible for up to 12 free treatments. It does not matter who is at fault for the accident. If you need more than 12 treatments or if 12 weeks have passed, you can extend the number of treatments or the treatment period with approval from an ICBC adjuster.
Under the Supplementary Benefits of the BC provincial medical insurance, if you are receiving Supplementary Benefits, you can receive up to $23 per acupuncture treatment, up to a total of $230 annually (10 treatments). Acupuncture treatment is covered by most extended health plans. Please check your benefits booklet or contact your insurance provider in order to be clear on the details of your coverage.
Usually a certain amount per year is allocated to different types of therapy such as RMT registered massage therapy, physiotherapy, chiropractor, and acupuncture.
Some providers pay a percentage (usually 70% ~ 100%) per visit. Some plans offer a dollar amount per year instead of a percentage.
To receive Extended Health Benefits insurance reimbursement, please submit your receipts to your provider directly. We recommend that you submit your receipts regularly – each 3 months or so is a good habit to get into.
Patients who wish to file a direct claim with their insurance company will need to provide the following information: insurance company name, policy number, ID number, name of the policyholder, date of birth, and relationship (if the policy is in a family member's name).
Additionally, if you have more than one insurance policy, direct claims can only be made with your primary insurance (except if one of the insurers is Pacific Blue Cross or Green Shield). For a secondary plan, you will need to file the claim directly with the insurance company. If the insurance company does not accept direct claims, you can submit the treatment receipt issued by our clinic directly to the insurance company.
