Hair Loss
Types and Causes of Hair Loss
Hair loss is often of the male-pattern type.
It is characterized by thinning hair due to genetic factors and male hormones (androgens), primarily affecting the frontal hairline and the top of the head. This type is commonly seen in men, which is why it is referred to as male-pattern hair loss.
Of course, there is also female-pattern hair loss. Unlike male-pattern hair loss, the hairline at the forehead is maintained, while the hair at the central part of the head becomes finer.
There was a viewpoint that androgens are the cause, but high androgen levels are only observed in some patients, and the exact cause remains unclear.
The familiar alopecia areata involves hair loss in various sizes of round or oval patches. It mainly presents as hair shedding, with genetic factors and autoimmune issues being the most important causes.
Telogen effluvium occurs when hair follicles enter a resting phase and stop producing hair after a specific cause or event.
It is often triggered by environmental factors, medications, or stress, resulting in rapid thinning and loss of hair.
Hair Loss Treatment
Alopecia areata is usually treated with steroid injections or topical applications at the affected areas. However, this approach often has temporary effects, potential side effects, and a high rate of recurrence.
Telogen effluvium generally resolves naturally once the underlying cause is removed, so there is usually no need for special concern. However, if it persists for too long, examination and treatment may be necessary.
At AIBI Clinic, we use herbal essences and shampoos made from natural ingredients that have been proven effective in Korea to treat hair loss. Depending on the case, we also employ modern treatment techniques to significantly improve the success rate.
