Growth Diagnosis and Treatment
Methods of Growth Diagnosis
Chronological Age
This refers to the age of the child as measured from birth, typically used as a standard measure (e.g., newborn age in days, infant age in months, or post-conception age for premature babies).
Height Age
Height age assesses the child's height compared to the average height for children of a specific age. For example, if a 9-year-old's height corresponds to the 50th percentile for 7-year-olds, their height age would be 7 years.
Bone Age
Bone age is a crucial indicator of skeletal development. It is assessed through X-rays that evaluate the number, size, shape, density, contour sharpness, capping, and fusion of ossification centers in bones.
Ossification
Ossification refers to the process of cartilage turning into bone. The degree of ossification helps determine bone age.
X-ray Examination
Bone age is estimated by comparing the degree of ossification in various joints, particularly the wrist bones, which are easily observable due to their arrangement.
Measuring Growth Plates
Growth plates are assessed through X-rays of the heel, wrist, and fingers to observe their status:
- Finger Growth Plates: These typically open around age 2 and close around age 17
- Heel Growth Plates: These usually open around age 7 and close earlier, around age 13
Growth Prediction and Bone Age Assessment at AIBI Clinic
- Utilization of TW3 Method - The TW3 method, recognized in the academic community, is used for growth prediction
- Comparison Using Average X-ray Images - Growth stages are compared using X-ray images to secure accurate measurements
- Genetic Factors - Genetic growth predictions are made by considering the parents' heights
- Statistical Application - Growth predictions incorporate both height and weight data statistically
- Early Detection of Growth Issues - By identifying conditions such as short stature or early maturation early, treatment time can be maximized
At AIBI Clinic, accurate diagnosis is followed by tailored treatment plans that include herbal medicine, acupuncture treatment, and massage therapy, considering the child's constitution and health status.
